Scholarships

It is Durlston Court’s policy to encourage excellence and to welcome talented pupils who, without the assistance of a scholarship, may not be able to access a Durlston education.

A Durlston Court Scholarship, therefore, recognises excellence.

A limited number of Academic, Music and Sports Scholarships are available and are awarded on merit only, following examination. It is possible to achieve a scholarship in more than one area.

In addition to a financial discount (usually 10-15%) on term fees, a Durlston Scholar can also benefit from the following:

Academic Scholars

  • Small class sizes providing personalised challenge.
  • Access to the Learning Development Centre and team of fully qualified, experienced staff to further extend our gifted and talented pupils.
  • Opportunities to meet, compete and share learning with other gifted and talented pupils both locally and further afield.
  • Examination experience and support, including Common Entrance and Grammar School preparation.
  • Interview practice in preparation for Senior School applications.
  • Opportunities beyond academics fostering an all-round, happy and successful experience
  • Support and nurture from the whole Durlston Family.

Music Scholars

  • Dedicated Music School with outstanding facilities and equipment.
  • Personal practice rooms available at breaks and lunchtimes. Pupils also meet with others to form their own bands and groups.
  • Specialist peripatetic instrumental, vocal and theory teachers, working with pupils and parents to develop each child’s individual talent including the development of composing, music technology and harmony.
  • Public exams (ABRSM, Trinity) are held in our Music School.
  • Formal and informal concerts, services and events across the year providing a wealth of performing experience.
  • Specialist ensemble coaching in our extra-curricular instrumental groups including the Orchestra, Jazz Band, String Ensemble, Guitar Group, Percussion Group, Recorder Consort, Wind Band, and other groups such as pop and rock bands. All groups perform at various events throughout the year.
  • Large Choir and Chamber Choir offering the chance to sing in three parts, and perform in a range of venues and with adult SATB choir and orchestra.
  • Leadership roles are available for senior pupils.

Sports Scholarships

  • Daily lessons and coaching with access to external specialist coaches.
  • Regular opportunities to compete.
  • Entry to regional and national competitions (as appropriate). 
  • Regular meetings with Sports Coaches/Director of Sport to review performance and set future goals.
  • Access to specialist speakers and presenters.          
  • Elite coaching workshops.      
  • Opportunity to extend sporting experience, for example scoring training.
  • Leadership and Captaincy experience.          
  • Opportunities beyond sport - fostering an all-round, happy and successful experience.
  • Support and nurture from the whole Durlston Family.
