World Religions

The revised 07/2006 curriculum states that pupils will:

  ♦ have a good knowledge of one or more religions
  ♦ have a sympathetic understanding of the main beliefs and traditions of those religions studied

World Religions are primarily taught to the pupils at the end of Key Stage 2 and the beginning of Key Stage 3. Pupils are expected to gain the key skills of:

  ♦ recall, select, organise and display Knowledge - including content and vocabluary
  ♦ describe, analyse and explain
  ♦ evaluate using relevant evidence and argument as well as appropriate language

Christianity and Judaism

In broad outline
Sikhism, Hinduisum, Islam and Buddism

Aspects taught include:
  ♦founders, prophets, teachers
  ♦beliefs, doctrine
  ♦holy books
  ♦main festivals
  ♦main ceremonies and worship
  ♦places to worship
  ♦service to the community
  ♦pilgrimage
  ♦main traditions and denominations
