MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Pupils playing some of the wide range of instruments they learn while at Durlston.

INSTRUMENT TUITION Yrs 3 - 8

All pupils receive weekly music lessons with Mr. Harrison, Director of Music, in the Music School. In addition, the school also offer tuition in the following disciplines:

Violin, Cello, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, Euphonium, Trombone, Horn in F, Tenor Horn, Tuba, Percussion, Recorder, Piano and Organ.

The school has a limited stock of instruments, which pupils may hire for their initial lessons. 

The school has four Choirs, an Orchestra, Wind Band, Guitar Group, Hand bells Group, String Group, Brass Group, Clarinet, Flute and Recorder ensembles and Percussion group.  All pupils learning an instrument are encouraged to take part in these groups.  Theory of Music is taught to all pupils, but those needing more than a general knowledge are encouraged to have individual lessons.

Pupils are prepared for the public examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (both practical and theory) for which the school is a centre.

All children are encouraged to perform, whether it is in class or in the formal and informal concerts, which are held regularly at school.

All pupils from years 2-8 have class music lessons in the Music School with Mr. Harrison.
