Learning to think
Science should never be a dry subject based around remembering facts; the combined study of the three disciplines of biology, chemistry & physics empowers today’s students to understand and explain why materials and living organisms behave in the manner that they do, and how they interact with each other.
Relating all scientific concepts to the “4 Key Ideas” of Energy, Forces, Particles & Cells (central to the Government’s Science Strategy) features strongly in our teaching.
Never before has study of the sciences been more important than today. No longer does any student have the justification to comment, “Why do I need to study Science?” Climate change is here, its effects are real and they affect us all – today’s youth more so than anyone.
Besides this Global Warming is an excellent example to use to illustrate the importance of identifying links between the sciences, something which we at Durlston actively encourage.
