History Department

1066 (and all that)

At Durlston Court, children in Years 6-8 follow the revised syllabus for Common Entrance 07/2006.

The new schemes of work encourage pupils to learn chronology and terms. Facts and skills are seen as vital linked components. Children use appropriate source material. THey study cause and effect, difference, change and continuity. The highlighted skills are enquiry and communication.

At Durlston we take time to research the topics in greater depth rather than the broad brush approach.

The History Department actively encourages the acquisition and application of high order language skills especially oral expression and extending the use of English.
