Geography Department

Geography in the senior school Years 6-8

As with the other humanities subjects the scheme of work and syllabus changed in 07/2006.

The previous syllabus expected a broad outline of skills to be covered, whereas the new syllabus has shifted the emphasis towards geographical enquiry and case studies. Places, patterns, processes, environmental change and sustainable development form the 5 key elements. Pupils are encouraged to develop their geographical knowledge and understanding. It is seen as essential that piplis develop skills of enquiry.

The aims of the syllabus
To stimulate curiosity about the world; introduce pupils to people, places, and environment; contribute to environmental awareness and education for sustainable development; develop understanding of physical and human landscapes, different societies and cultuires, and awareness of global interdependence.
