Geography Department

Geography in the Senior School Years 6-8

In Geography we follow the 2009 syllabus for Common Entrance which encourages pupils to use a range of enquiry skills in and out of the classroom to develop their knowledge and understanding of place, patterns, processes, environmental change and sustainable development and relates closely to The National Curriculum for Key stage 3.

Geography is taught in a dedicated slot of a minimum of 90 minutes per week, rising to 120 minutes as circumstances dictate e.g. case study or fieldwork projects.

Dedicated I.T. Suite time is set aside alongside geography lessons to permit the use of a bank of computers.

Aims:
• To stimulate curiosity about the world;
• To introduce pupils to people, places and environments;
• To contribute to environmental awareness and education for sustainable development;
• To develop understanding of physical and human landscapes, introduce pupils to different societies and cultures and enhance awareness of global independence.
