Eco Friendly

The school is keen to play its part in reducing pollution and carbon emissions. To effect this there is a phased programme of initiatives to meet this objective.

New Buildings

Any new buildings are designed to ensure that we meet and exceed building regulations. The new Kindergarten employs heat pumps to reduce the consumption of electricity. Insulation to the walls, floors and roof provide a very high level of thermal insulation. The building is cosy in the winter and cool in the summer.

Recycling and Waste Disposal

The school's determined approach to recycling, which, with support and containers from New Forest District Council, is a help to our environment. The school has undertaken a policy of recycling and sorting its waste in various components such as paper and glass etc. Named containers are 'on-site'. Our pupils are being encouraged to join the 'save the planet' initiatives as they emerge.

Buildings Refurbishment

As buildings are refurbished energy saving measures are put in place. The current roof repairs ensure that proper insulation is installed and replacement windows are energy efficient.

Lighting and Heating

All lighting in the school now employs low energy bulbs.

Planned replacement of water and heating boilers will use the latest high efficency devices.

Heating Fuels

The school has a policy of fuel diversification to ensure partial operation if one source fails. The main thrust is to reduce reliance on electricity which has the largest carbon foot print. Storgage heaters will be phased out and replaced by hot water systems heated by either gas or oil.
