Drama at Durlston Court
Drama continues to thrive at Durlston Court School. From the early years Christmas plays to the annual senior summer show, children are encouraged to display their talents on stage, growing in confidence and creating long-lasting memories for both performers and their audiences.
Year 7 Pantomime 2011- 'Little Red Riding Hood'What a spectacular show! To start we were treated to the 'Durlston's Got Talent' judges performing and showing off their own singing and dancing skills; from Bruno Mars to a Christmas carol, Louis Lack, One-Lisa and Grumpy Simon Cowell-Collard got the audience in the mood straight away. We then discovered the astonishing mind-reading skills of 'Mysterio' (Julius) accompanied by his lovely assistant Davina (Joe). The show itself got underway and our heroine (Jasmin) was directed by her mother (Polly), with the help of some tanned, check-shirted woodcutters (Nat and James), to the Ballard forest library run by Mrs. Super (Albany). Her request for some bizarrely entitled books was overheard by the rather cuddly looking wolf (Jessica), who then made its way to granny's house, following an advertisement break featuring Barry Scott. Eventually granny (Amelia) made it on stage and the inevitable confusion and chaos! Very well acted throughout, the audience thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon's entertainment. Sample comments from the cast: One of my favourite scenes was the granny scene when Amelia walked on really slowly; I couldn't hold my laugh it was so funny. Evie (narrator 3) I found out that I could perform in from of 200 people! I didn't think I could do it, but in the end I really enjoyed it. I played the part of the character with only one line, coming on when anyone said anything that rhymed with Max! My actual line was 'Yes, the Balmer Lawn hotel, let's finish with a song!’ Max Behind stage I was really shaking, but when I was on stage it was really hot. I was playing the role of Barry Scott. Emma I was Mysterio the Magnificent in the panto. My favourite scene was when Jasmin 'Little Red Riding Hood' did her amazing solo. I gained confidence and mental strength from my performance. Thanks to Mr. Fulton and Mr. Lack. Julius. From this experience I have learned that I get nervous really easily. Also you have to put a lot of work into things to do well. I really enjoyed it and being Davina. Joe After I had done well in my scenes I felt really proud of myself and I felt like I was a movie star; I was overjoyed when some parents came up to me and said I did very well. Matthew (narrator 1) I enjoyed the year 7 pantomime because it gave me confidence on stage and I loved the whole process and I would do it again and again! James (woodcutter) The Y7 panto was super fun! I very much enjoyed being the wolf, as it was an unusual part and gave me a chance to really 'show what I'm made of.' Even though I wasn't horribly nervous, I went on first time and I felt a bit like jelly! Jessica. |
Richard Fulton Durlston has a rich history of G & S, indeed at one point they were the only shows that were performed by the school in an annual November show. |
