Disney's Aladdin Jr.

‘Welcome to Agrabah, City of Enchantment, where every beggar has a story and every camel has a tail!’

It is always tricky finding suitable productions, so we were delighted to discover that Disney had released ‘junior’ versions of several of their well known animated films.

We were also hoping for an easier year as ‘Aladdin Jr.’ is nowhere near as long as the Shakespeare tackled last year; however this has actually been very complicated to put together, particularly because of the choreography, masterminded by Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Croker.

We have also tried to maximise the cast to give as many pupils as possible an opportunity to perform onstage- over three quarters of the school are involved in some capacity.

In addition ‘Aladdin’ requires several ‘special effects’- the genie appearing and magic carpet flying for example. We tried to manage these with some technical gadgets which we hoped worked on the night- our fingers were crossed!

Once again I was delighted that the main actors were drawn from so many different year groups; we really have talent in this school and I am sure that the performances highlighted this fact. (Indeed, Caroline Elphick will shortly be appearing in ‘Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang’ at the Mayflower.)

Thank you very much for your support- to sell-out two nights so quickly was really encouraging and I hope that, at least in part, this is because we have built up a decent reputation over the last few years.

This is down to the dedication of not only the cast but the staff, particularly Stella Croker, Lisa Jones and Ian Harrison - I have given the latter the ‘honour’ of choosing next year’s production… so be warned!

I really hope that you enjoyed the show… (and the lots of applause helped calm the nerves!)
